Studio 3.0 More Explorations and About Bug Reports

Over at the Silhouette Plus Forum we now have a new pinned topic just for "Suggestions and Bug Reports" thanks to Barbara (bdjeepers) excellent idea. You will find this post in the "Discovery and Discussions" forum in the newly created Studio 3.0 forum. We would appreciate any feed back you have to share.

Silhouette called me today and asked for me to go ahead and email the current list. Believe me, they are working hard to fix the issues so all of us Studio 3.0 users can enjoy better performing software.

As I learn more and figure out some of the things I'm doing wrong I'll be making videos. I really don't want to see others get as frustrated as I've been or lose their faith in such a wonderful company like Silhouette, I hope each video will be helpful and I hope we can all keep our pateince while Silhouette programmers work through these issue.

Here is to day's video. I hope it's helpful. P.S. Below the video is a picture of the bunny in the video I cut today. It turned out perfect! Sorry about the picture. The bunny is sucha a pale blue it was hard for me to get a good picture.

  1. Debbie did you have to separate all the pieces the pieces by color or does the program know when you pick layers? Also when you have 2 programs on your computer what about the library and when you mentioned about the designer edition do you load that onto both 2.9.45 and 3.0 ? I hope this makes sense.

    1. Hi Jocelan, I do have "my Library" in both editions. The program will show the colors of the lines or in the Designer Edition where layers are available to sue it will show you each element of the design. The things I want to cut I leave on the top of the layers and drag the things I don't wnat cut to a newly created layer. When you click on each element which ususally shows up as "Polygon" if you look at your cutting area work board you will see what element you are clicking on. You can double click what says "polygon and name it to something else. This helps avoid confustion when moving things to a new layer. In today's video on Studio 3.0 Print and Cut I show an example of how this is done. Hugs,Debbie

  2. Jocelan, I didn't separrate the pieces in Studi 3.0 I just selected Auto Weld to keep all of the pieces together and made sure to turn off the "Convert Strokes to Outlines" off. Right now, anything made in the new Studio 3.0 can't be opened up in previous versions. I have both on my computer to go back and forth to make comparisons. I opned up the old bunny file and made sure not to save it so it would be okay to open up in previous versions. Silhouette know about this issue too. They are working on fixing itl Hugs, Debbie

    1. Hi Jocelan, this was one of the first things I had noticed and emailed them so fast my head was spinning...lol They are aware of the compatability issue. I too will not save anything in the current Studio 3.0 because it won't open in any of the previous versions. I've tried opening up a file saved in Studio 3.0 in three versions. Silhouette is definitely working on this issue. Hugs, Debbie

  3. Thank you for taking the time to keep us going. I'm sad that I cannot take time right now to learn along right beside you (I'm leaving town for a month), but I hope to catch up when I return. Don't worry, I will never give up on Silhouette. They are more than just the company that supports a product I am using, they care just like a friend would.

    1. Sandy, I agree with you.Silhouette has been way too awesome of a company and has the best customer suppot of any company I've know to give up on them. I was frustrated about the bugs but know, the programmers are working so hard to get them all fixed. Once this is done, we are going to have some amazing software and to think ( with the exception of the Designer Edition) it's free. Have a safe trip. I hope to see you around when you return. Hugs, Debbie

  5. Thanks Debbie. I find your videos very helpful and the make for a lot less frustration. I think I'll wait until some of the "bugs" are worked out before I switch to 3.0.

  6. Debbie thank you and Kay, Barbara and all of the others who are trying so hard to figure out the new software and helping silhouette work out the bugs! ! !
Question - should we download the new version or wait for the update?

    1. craftykarla, I wanted to download it so I could stat learning the new features. Even with the bugs in it I still wanted to learn but I also run two versions of the software on my computers. The worse thing that can happen is that you hate it and want to revert back to the older Legacy (2.9.45) You can easily do this by going to the Silhhouette website downloads, scroll to the bottom area and download the Legacy (2.9.45) uninstall the Studio 3.0 ** but make sure to de-activate you Designer Edition License before you uninstall. You can find it in the "Help" menu in the Studio 3.0. After you have done this, you are ready to re-install the older Legacy Edition (2.9.45)

  7. Debbie, thank you so much for the video. I had reported on the Center of Rotation problem at the forum, but when I was using the Rotate One (Two, Three, Five) Copy (before you do any of the advanced options), the rotations just rotated around the center of the shape I had clicked to rotate. Now I see what you were talking about with your circles going all over the place. You were using some of the advanced options.

    1. Hi Debbie S. Yes, the rotation tool s one feature I am really missing. A lot of people love making doilies using the "Rotation Tool". Silhouette has our list we've made over at the forum. I have also been chatting with them on the phone and emailing an updated list on a daily basis. I know they will get these things fixed so we can use this awesome software more efficiently. Here is a link to a video I made showing how the "Rotation Tool" use to work. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EWbSyx0vKpw

  8. Hi Debbie, thanks so much for all your very useful information on the new software. I am trying to do a print and cut and my Silhouette is not picking up the registration marks. Thought it was because I had adjusted the default registration marks so I reprinted with the default registration marks, but still wont cut. Is this yet another bug? Julie Beckett

    1. Hi Julia, I too had this problem in this version fo the software. We are still doing some beta testing and hope all issues will soon be resolved. This is definitely one of the "bugs" the programmers have worked on and I'm hapy to say; it's working well.

    2. Hi Debbie, thanks so much for coming back to me. I originally thought it might be because I have just started using the CB09 blade holder (that was a major learning curve to set it up, but hope I have now sorted that :) ). So I shut down Silhouette and the Mac and tried again using the default registration marks and the Silhouette blade and it cut perfectly. Did a second cut using the CB09 and it was fine. But haven't tried with changed registration marks. Look forward to Silhouette ironing our their bugs.

    3. Julia, I'm so happy you're getting perfect cuts. Right now it's hard to distinguish equipment from software failure. I also agree learning to use the CB09 blade holder and blades was a bit fiddly to all figure out but I absolutely love it! I set mine to double cut for every project. This made the CB09 a little less fiddly and I don't have to make any adjustments. I keep it right where it's at and have been using it this way for many months. Hugs, Debbie
